Half way there.

Ideas and tools for a resilient second half of 2025

Here we are at the half-way mark of 2025. These mid-week newsletters are designed to help us finish the week strong, but I think this feels like the right time to pack some extra punch to finish the year strong.

This is the halftime moment of our year. And, regardless of where we are right now, it’s important to remember that no one ever wins the game in the first half. Even if we’re ahead, the work’s not done. And if we’re behind? Well, everyone loves a comeback story!

Every January, we set goals. We get inspired. We talk about fresh starts. And by June, most of that is buried under life, overwhelm, and "I’ll do it tomorrow."

Of course, we can always adjust at any time (we don’t have to wait for a new year to start fresh), but something about the middle of the year feels like another milestone that is worthy of some reflection…and potentially some adjustments.

Four ideas to carry into the second half of 2025.

1. The art of letting go.

What is not serving us anymore and it’s time to get rid of? There is a lot to say about change in this modern life. Things move fast and constantly evolve. One question I often revisit is to ask: where am I still loyal to a strategy that no longer serves me?

Maybe our goals from January are outdated. Maybe our energy has shifted. Maybe what we thought would fulfill us just doesn’t anymore. Resilience means having the guts to change the plan, not just power through it blindly.

Taylor Sheridan did this, so did the founder of Shake Shack. The art of letting go to start a new path is a powerful one. It can be scary as hell, but with the right tools and frame of mind, it can be the best thing to happen to us.

2. What season are we in?

Not everything blooms on a perfect timeline.

Some things are still underground, developing in silence. And that silence is not failure. It’s root work and a foundation that requires patience. And it’s hard to be patient in this day and age - we are programmed for the instantaneousness of life to be there ALL THE TIME. It’s exhausting.

But some growth can feel like standing still. Like writing something that gets almost zero feedback, but it resonated with one person who really needed it that day. Or like the time we did great work but no one noticed. It wasn’t even our responsibility, but we did it, without recognition, because it was the right thing to do.

When this happens, we often ask “what’s the point?” but that’s the wrong way to look at it. Instead, what if we didn’t label it as good or bad…it just is. And it’s our chance to contribute something of value. That the powerful play goes on, and we each contribute a verse.

There’s something amazingly freeing in this perspective! It’s not acquiescence - it’s acknowledgement of the value we contribute. It’s a tiny positive ripple we have let fly into the universe.

We need to trust the process that, if we do the work today, it’s helping us tomorrow. What reps can we put in today to help us for tomorrow?

3. Courage to do something wild.

If we feel like we’re stalling, we don’t need another New Year for motivation - we just need to get moving. To start. To do the thing.

One small act of courage - to do something in spite of the fear we have about it.

Because if we’re waiting for better timing, we’re outsourcing our future to our comfort zone. That might sound ok for now, but our comfort zone will not be our friend if things get a bit frantic. So we need to invite discomfort.

“No man is more unhappy than he who never faces adversity. For he is not permitted to prove himself.” - Seneca

Resilience isn’t about getting it right. It’s about showing up, even when it’s hard.

4. Burn bright, not out

Burnout rates are sky high, but here’s an unpopular perspective - what if we are causing our own burnout?

There are plenty of us who are exhausted, under-fueled, uninspired, and stuck doing things that drain us. It’s not about doing more. It’s about doing what actually moves us and gives us energy.

Burnout comes from our inability to manage all that life throws at us. Yes, it is hard. Yes, it is unfair at times. And no matter how much we want life to get easier, it doesn’t. Instead, we can learn to handle hard better. Bad leaders aren’t going to change. Company culture isn’t going to magically shift. If someone is in a bad mood and it affects us, then that’s our fault.

Because that’s all we can actually control.

So now is a great time to ask: What gives me energy? Who gives me energy? And What can I control? Let’s find more of that.

Resilience is not about grinding until we collapse. It’s about lighting a fire that we can sustain and having the tools to protect the flame.

There are still 6 months left this year. We don’t need a clean slate - we just need a choice that aligns to who we’re becoming.

And who we’re becoming is more resilient. We’re becoming the best versions of ourselves, able to handle anything life throws at us.

So forget finishing strong. Instead, start strong again. This week. This month. This moment.

Let’s go!

Until next time friends, stay resilient.
